![]() Waterfox being sold to System1 (company that also owns StartPage) can hardly be compared to that. However, the case of Nano Adblocker was rather special because it was sold to criminals(!) without prior notice, and those criminals were prepared to tqake advantage of the situation immediately. Can literally happen to any project if the owner sells out. > If that new bookmark doesn't appear in Firefox, then never mind. You trying to tell me that anyone can sell out and change software over night? If so, then this is hardly surprising. Along with many other databases, like cookies and extensions data.Īfterwards, you run Waterfox, it can't recognize bookmarks database, thinks it's corrupted and tosses it away.įor that reason, and only if this is the case, you should make sure that either Firefox or Waterfox uses another profile. So you run Firefox, which appears mostly the same due to Rapid Release Cycle, and it upgrades your bookmark database to a whole new format. Then, one day, Firefox updates, but Waterfox is a day or two behind with their version. For example, lets say both programs are at the same version, and you are careful enough to only run one of them at the time. If so, STOP using both applications, as they will corrupt your data eventually. > If yes, that means both applications are using the same profile - that of Firefox. When you bookmark something in Waterfox, then close it and run Firefox, does the new bookmark appear now in Firefox? And if you already have one, tell us now. If you don't see or understand the warning and its unspoken implications for cross-browser use, don't even think of creating a custom location. You could lose data even if you're only using one browser. If you must, create a new profile for each, but keep them separate, and DO NOT CREATE A CUSTOM LOCATION for any profile unless you fully understand the warning in the Knowledge Base. Personally I wouldn't run them in any case, since any possible gains are dubious. It would be extremely easy to lose all your data. One little side effect is that if you use one program to delete data (either through uninstallation or profile maintenance), you could lose data in the others. If you don't have explicit assurance of profile safety from them, I would not run those other programs. ![]() There may be a safe way of doing that using symlinks, but it's up to them to do that if they haven't. They're trying to get you to switch back and forth so you can use the same data. Google Chrome doesn't mess with Firefox, and neither should these others. Under no circumstances should they be in a position to write or delete anything in the Firefox profile. They're separate programs, and should have separate user data. Mgagnonlv wrote:By default, Waterfox uses the same profile as Firefox. One added advantage: both Pale Moon and Firefox can run at the same time without problem, and without any round-about procedure. So there is no danger of inter-corruption. Anyway, it means that once Pale Moon is installed and configured, you will have two independent programs, each using their own profile. The developer also offers a utility to copy your Firefox profile to Pale Moon, and of course, you could manually copy your Firefox profile on top of your newly-created Pale Moon profile. On the other hand, Pale Moon is different. ![]() There is a discussion on the Cyberfox forum to eventually use a different profile for Cyberfox. It would be a bit the same with Cyberfox, albeit to a lesser extent, because the cyberfox developer is very quick on updates, so versions should be similar. Right now, Firefox is at version 25, going on 26, whereas Waterfox is at 24 and probably staying there for a few months (if past experience continues). In any case, I would certainly avoid moving back and forth between Firefox (32-bit) and Waterfox (64-bit), because you will be going through compatibility checking and maybe raise database compatibility issues each time you change from one browser to the other. I am not sure if, when you install it, you may select "advanced" options and create a new profile otherwise, make a copy of your Firefox profile just in case. By default, Waterfox uses the same profile as Firefox. ![]()
